
Allen Sims
Mr. Sims was born in Denver, Colorado, and graduated from Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho, in 1965. He then attended George Washington University College of Law in Washington, D.C., where he received a J.D. degree, with honors, in 1968. In 1980 he earned an LL.M. degree in taxation at New York University.
In estate planning, Mr. Sims handles estates of all sizes and levels of complexity, preparing wills, revocable trusts and life insurance trusts. He advises clients in matters regarding retirement plans, family and charitable gifting, probate issues, guardianship and conservatorship proceedings, multigenerational transfers, elder law issues and employee benefits. In tax matters, Mr. Sims represents clients in tax planning and dispute resolution in Internal Revenue Service administrative and judicial proceedings. He also structures deferred tax-free real estate exchanges, the creation of business entities, and the purchase, sale, merger and division of business entities.
Mr. Sims is active in the Utah State Bar as a member and officer in the Estate Planning and Probate Sections, a member of the Taxation Section and a long-term member of the Ethics Advisory Opinion Committee. He has also taught courses in estate planning and taxation.
